WATER

Air Plants don’t grow in soil and get their nutrients from the air, but one thing they will definitely need is to be watered. We recommend giving them a thorough rinsing under running water, or letting them soak in a water bath for 20-30 minutes once per week. If not, a longer 2-3 hour soak is recommended every other week. After the bath, gently shake the plant to remove any excess water, and set it out to dry. You can also mist them every 2 days for an extra TLC. If they are soft, light in colour, wrinkled or rolled leaves, it can be a sign of dehydration and need water. Since these plants are super hardy and forgiving, you shouldn’t stress too much over their care schedule and definitely not needed to get a plant sitter when you’re away. They can live for weeks without water, but just remember to give it a good soak to replenish it once you’re home.

LIGHT

Air plants should be kept where they’ll receive bright, indirect sunlight or under fluorescent lighting. Periods of direct sunlight are just fine, but no more than a few hours of hot sun as it can deplete the plants of their moisture, so be sure to mist them to keep them hydrated if they were expose to direct light. Hang them in a terrarium by the window or place them in mini holders to be your work table companion and centrepiece.

GROOMING MAINTENANCE

Everyone needs a little grooming once in a while! It is normal for some of the lower leaves to dry out as the plant grows or acclimate to a new environment, and those leaves can be gently pulled right off of the plant. If the leaf tips are browning, you can snip the dried tips off at an angle (this leaves a natural-looking pointy tip), and the same can be done for the plant’s roots. Don’t worry about harming your plants during grooming – they’ll regrow.

Our fav part? Within a year or two, the one Air Plant you purchased can multiply if it starts growing an offshoot stem, leaves or pups.
